WOOD and The Final Destruction

By  Kenneth Morton, editor of Highwire Daze

WOOD has been rockin the Los Angeles area for several years, collecting awards and gaining a good amount of hardcore metal fans along the way. With a new album entitled, ‘FINAL DESTRUCTION” coming soon. And their high profile, live shows, their future looks great! Lets check into what these hardcore heavy metal bad boys are all about…

Introduce yourself; tell me what you do in Wood,
and how long the band has been together?

WOOD: Bobby Richards/drums for two years, Mike Moore/lead guitar, back up vocals for 1 year, Founder and original band members Hawk/lead vocalist, guitar and Franko/bass

What are your impressions of the local Los Angeles
music scene and how does Wood fit into the scheme of
things?

WOOD: The local scene has changed tremendously; fans don’t hang in the LA clubs like they did. These days it’s all about the Internet and websites like Myspace, search engines, webzines, emails, chat rooms and online radio. WOOD has been called a “promotional machine” and we are constantly promoting our band/music on-line and off with flyers, running ads, going out to the clubs and after parties. We stand out as one of the most talked about metal bands of the underworld.

Describe the music of Wood to someone who has never
heard it before?

WOOD: Old school Metal meets DISTURBED, KORN, METALLICA and BLACK SABBATH

How close are you to finishing Final Destruction,
and is there any story behind the album title?

Wood: FINAL DESTRUCTION will be out soon, no release date has been set. But your going to have to read the lyrics yourself, I don’t want to ruin the ending.

Where do you get the ideas for some of the lyrics
you write?

WOOD: From insight and things that are in plain in sight.

What was it like working with James "Zota" Baker
from the legendary band War?

WOOD: He heard our demo and said “ Hey, there is something definitely here”. He wanted to produce us. Which led to a spec deal in which he was actually unable to produce because he was on tour and too busy. We did record three songs in a great studio for FREE because of him. Unfortunately, they got shelved because nobody was signing metal bands unless they had 50,000 albums sales under their belt. Which is why we are doing our own full-length album.

Describe a live Wood show for those of us who have
yet to see you play?

We are the “hard-core Metal Bad Boys” and live up to our name. When we hit the stage there’s long hair, sweat, leather and mayhem. By the time we leave the stage there’s a crowd of fists in the air, everyone shouting WOOD, WOOD, WOOD!!

What was it like opening for such noteworthy bands
as WASP and Metal Church?

WOOD: It was an honor to share the stage with bands we these bands we grew up with.

What made you decide to do a cover of Fairies Wear
Boots by Black Sabbath?

WOOD: BLACK SABBATH is what influences us, among others. And we feel we do a great rendition of it. Besides the fact our fans go crazy when we perform this song.

How did your New York summer tour go?  Any
interesting stories to tell about your adventures in
the East Coast?

WOOD: Our NY tour went great! We picked up a whole new fan base on the east coast. Some are coming here to see us perform at NICKSTOCH west 2006 – Saturday May 13th 7PM. But our adventures/stories and memories of the East Coast are X Rates, (have Hustler contact us),ha ha

Does any of the band members have side projects
outside of Wood?

WOOD: Mike Moore is a guitar player for the band Mr. Crowley a tribute to Ozzy and Bobby Richards keeps his chops up in a cover band, AMERICAN PIE.

What do you think of the band Morning Wood?  Any
touring possibilities?
WOOD: Never heard of them?? Touring hell YES!! As soon as “FINAL DESTRUCTION’ is completed!

Los Angeles rock and roll groupies – reality or
myth?

WOOD: Oh ya it’s a REALITY!!

 What’s up next for Wood?

WOOD: Touring and promoting FINAL DESTRUCTION

Any messages for your fans here in the Los Angeles
area?

Wood: Wood thanks all of you for your support. Keep those fists in the air” A special thanks to our photographer Mike Cavanaugh for running around after us, our manager, publicist, family and Highwire Daze. You make it happen, thanks for supporting Indie music and hope to see you all at NIKSTOCK West 2006!!
